Nevada Nurse Portal is expected to be available June 4 The Nevada State Board of Nursing is transitioning to a cloud-based system that will allow all applicants to complete their initial and renewal applications online through the Nevada Nurse Portal. As a result of this upgrade the Board of Nursing will no longer accept new or renewal paper applications for nursing licenses effective Friday, May 25, 2018. It is anticipated that the Nevada Nurse Portal will be available Monday, June 4, 2018. There will be down time in the application system between May 25 and June 4. Additional clarification on the types of health professional that can sign emergency mental health certification State health officials have made minor changes to the form Application, Medical Clearance, and Certification for Emergency Admission of an Allegedly Mentally Ill Person to a Mental Health Facility — aka Legal 2000 (L2K) form. The change adds certain persons, including Advanced Practice Registered Nurses with psychiatric training, to the list of individuals who are authorized to sign certain areas of the form. New law aims to reduce Nevada lives lost to opioid abus The Nevada Board of Health has finalized regulations governing the procedures for reporting cases or suspected cases of prescription drug overdose to state health officials as part of the effort to curb the effects of opioid abuse.
The permanent regulations aimed at curbing opioid abuse in Nevada took effect on May 16, 2018, when the Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH) filed the regulations with the Secretary of State to comply with Assembly Bill 474, the Controlled Substance Abuse Prevention Act. The regulations provide the structure to reporting of overdose or suspected overdose cases to assist with the comprehensive response needed to save Nevadans’ lives. Staff must properly assess residents upon admission to ensure care can be provided without relying on EMS The Bureau of Health Care Quality and Compliance (HCQC) has identified a current need to provide information regarding use of Emergency Medical Services (EMS), including the use of fire departments and paramedics. The purpose of the technical bulletin below is to advise residential facilities for groups, skilled nursing facility administrators and homes for individual residential care directors to properly assess their residents upon admission and throughout each resident’s stay to ensure the facility has the capacity and capability to provide routine care for residents without relying on EMS. Get 12 hours of continuing education over two days in either Las Vegas or Reno The Nevada Department of Veterans Services is offering a two-day workshop called “Bravo Zulu: Achieving Excellence in Relationship-Centered Care,” exploring provision of care and support that is tailored, yet flexible, to each unique elder’s strengths, preferences and needs, while speaking to how military service affects the aging process. The course cost is $90 and includes 12 hours of continuing education, handouts, light breakfast, lunch and free parking. Registration for the May 7-8 class in Las Vegas has been extended until this Friday, May 4. The Reno class will be held May 17-18, with registration closing on May 9.
